Creating a Personal Sanctuary

Updated: Feb 7

An alter or personal sanctuary
Most of us want our homes to feel peaceful—but real life doesn’t always cooperate. Laundry piles up. Papers collect. Noise sneaks in. Schedules get busy. Have you ever noticed how easy it is to lose your sense of calm right in your own space?
Over time, I’ve learned that creating a personal sanctuary doesn’t require a whole room or expensive décor. Sometimes it’s just a small shelf, a windowsill, or a favorite chair that becomes “mine.” A place I can sit, breathe, and reset.
When we arrange these spaces with intention—soft lighting, comfortable textures, meaningful objects like stones, plants, candles, or photos—they begin to hold more than just objects. They hold memories, comfort, and quiet. It becomes a place for reflection. For grounding. For taking a breath between life’s busy moments.
Do you have a spot in your home that feels like that for you? Or maybe one you’ve been wanting to create?
